| Social Ministry | Social Ministry is a very well sponsored ministry at Christ the King. The ministries we support on a weekly basis include: Day House, the Food Pantry at Good Hope Lutheran Church, and Lutheran Social Services of Michigan. There are also many seasonal ministries supported. The monthly “Bring One” Sunday is a very successful and fun way of collecting the specific items most needed at the Food Pantry. Christ the King's contributions to the food pantry at Good Hope Lutheran Church helps enable them to distribute food to the needy families in the community on a regular basis. Our August "Bring One" Sunday was very successful (as usual). We collected: 55 cans of vegetables, 34 pounds of pasts, and 29 cans/jars of pasta sauce. In September, we will be collecting cereal and peanut butter. This will be September 14th. Our "School Bells" collection of socks and underwear for the Livonia Public Schools Clothing Depot is growing. These items will be taken to the Clothing Depot when school opens in September. Again this year we will be having a Flu Shot Clinic at Christ the King. It will be after the service on Sunday September 28, approximately 10:30 am. Please try to signup on the board in the hall to ensure sufficient supplies. Friends, neighbors, and family are welcome. Medicare will cover the cost of the shot for those on Medicare. We will be meeting in September to begin planning for our Angel Tree and Warming Tree ministries. We welcome anyone who is interested in helping with these projects. Christmas will be here sooner than we think! Social Ministry is each and every one of us. Our ongoing outreach in the community is a large part of who we are. In Matthew, chapter 25, verses 35-40, Jesus said, "For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stanger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me." Then the righteous will answer him, "Lord when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it thgat we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?" And the king will answer them, "Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me."
